Xbox Project Helix Might Keep Disc Drives Alive
Microsoft's Project Helix next-gen Xbox console might not ditch physical game discs just yet. A recent survey sent to Xbox Insider program participants suggests that Microsoft is still considering including disc drives in its new consoles.
The survey, obtained by social media user XboxTimDog and preserved by Power Up Gaming, includes a question about the importance of being able to install games from a physical disc. Participants can choose between 'not necessary', 'nice to have', or 'must have'.
This hints that Project Helix's design is not set in stone, as Microsoft has previously employed a dual strategy with its Xbox Series X and S consoles, which both feature disc drives alongside all-digital options.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma mentioned last month that the team is working on 'a great family of devices for Helix', which suggests that Microsoft may be exploring multiple design paths for its new console.
