Xbox Resets Again: 268 Jobs Cut, Key Studios Transferred
Microsoft's Xbox brand continues its major restructuring efforts, eliminating 268 more jobs across its gaming divisions. This move comes in addition to the 3,200 layoffs announced earlier this year. The majority of these cuts come from Halo Studios, which will be given over to Activision for future installments.
The studio consolidation is a significant part of Microsoft's reset plan. Rare, another long-standing developer acquired by Microsoft in 2002, will also be handed over to Activision. Rare is best known for its work on classic Nintendo consoles and the recent Sea of Thieves game.
Another major development includes Bethesda taking control of Obsidian Entertainment. The studio will continue working on Grounded and its sequel, as well as collaborating with Bethesda on a new Fallout project. This move marks the end of an era for the Obsidian we knew.
