Xbox's Disc-to-Digital Feature Lets Owners Claim Digital Copies of Physical Games

Microsoft has announced a new feature that will allow Xbox One and Series X console owners to claim a digital license for their physical game discs. The feature, called 'Disc-to-Digital', uses the unique identifier embedded in each disc to grant access to a digital copy of the game.

The process is simple: insert the disc into your Xbox console, launch the game, and follow the prompts to accept the digital entitlement. Once accepted, you can play the game without leaving the disc in the drive.

The feature will first be available for testers on August 31, with a wider rollout planned for months after that. The goal of Disc-to-Digital is to make it easier for players to carry their game libraries forward as hardware and stores change.

Older Xbox One games may not work with the new feature, as they did not have unique identifiers embedded in the discs. Similarly, original Xbox and Xbox 360 games will not be supported due to lack of a unique identifier.
