Zames Joins SSA as Advisor to Drive Modernization Efforts
Former JPMorgan Chase COO Matt Zames has been appointed as an advisor to the Social Security Administration (SSA) in a bid to modernize the agency. In this unpaid role, he will be limited to serving for up to 130 days, although these can be spread over a longer period.
Zames brings significant expertise from his five-year tenure at JPMorgan Chase, where he led technology and cost-cutting initiatives as COO. He has also served on advisory groups at the Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve.
This development comes after SSA Commissioner Frank Bisignano's nomination was approved by the U.S. Senate in May 2025. During his confirmation hearing, Bisignano pledged to improve the agency's efficiency and reduce its error rate. He also emphasized the importance of using artificial intelligence (AI) to combat Social Security fraud.
