Zapata Quantum, a quantum software developer, has officially joined the IBM Quantum Network, enhancing its access to IBM’s superconducting quantum processing units (QPUs) and co-development capabilities. This collaboration aims to address the quantum application gap, the growing divide between the rapid advancements in QPU hardware and the enterprise readiness to develop and deploy quantum software solutions.

Under the agreement, Zapata will integrate insights from IBM’s fault-tolerant and utility-scale superconducting processors into Quantum Pilot™, its hardware-agnostic platform for quantum application discovery and development. The partnership builds on prior joint research, including a study published in Nature Biotechnology in 2025, which identified novel small-molecule inhibitors targeting the KRAS cancer mutation using a 16-qubit IBM processor. Another foundational research on variational quantum factoring was published in npj Quantum Information.

The collaboration focuses on several technical areas, including direct access to IBM Quantum hardware, optimization of superconducting QPU execution, and high-speed circuit execution for industrial applications such as chemistry, optimization, and defense. Zapata’s Quantum Pilot™ platform will be integrated with IBM’s Quantum Application Intelligence™ engine to systematically identify, resource estimate, and compile logical circuits for enterprise clients in pharmaceuticals, materials science, defense, and financial modeling.

By combining IBM’s superconducting QPU roadmap with Zapata’s application engineering tools, the partnership seeks to establish practical resource requirements and logical circuit compilation pathways for industrial clients ahead of fault-tolerant QPU availability.
