Zoox Expands Robotaxi Service to San Francisco
Amazon's autonomous driving unit, Zoox, has expanded its commercial service to San Francisco, adding another major U.S. market to its roster. This move comes after Zoox began offering paid rides in Las Vegas on August 10th.
The vehicles used by Zoox are purpose-built electric cars that operate without a steering wheel, pedals, or conventional dashboard. They can transport up to four passengers and travel in either direction.
Zoox has accumulated over 3 million autonomous miles and transported nearly 1 million passengers, according to The Wall Street Journal. The company is also conducting testing in Austin and Miami as it builds out its network.
