$5B Fund Touted for War-Torn Middle East Infrastructure
The US government has proposed a $5 billion fund to help rebuild critical infrastructure in the Middle East damaged in the war with Iran. The Partnership for Allied Construction & Trust would be led by the US Development Finance Corporation to encourage investment, reconstruction and economic expansion.
The document identifies four project categories as priorities for the platform: investing to bypass the Strait of Hormuz, restoring energy flows and critical material exports, hardening assets against future attacks, and rebuilding essential domestic infrastructure and import flows.
Market reaction has been mixed, with the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) oil price down 3.60% on the day at $91.80.
