$90 Brent: Fading Hopes for US-Iran Deal Send Oil Prices Soaring

The price of Brent North Sea crude oil surged past $90 on Tuesday as hopes for a US-Iran deal to end the war faded.

Brent reached $90.02 a barrel, marking a gain of more than 2.5 percent from Monday's close, while West Texas Intermediate jumped 2.7 percent to $84.32 a barrel.

The rise comes despite earlier optimistic comments from Washington and marks the latest blow in stalled peace negotiations between the two nations.

US President Donald Trump said on Monday that he would seek conflict compensation from Iran as part of any peace deal, responding to Tehran's demand for US war reparations as a condition of any agreement.
