ADM Enters Voluntary Carbon Market with Nebraska Corn Facility
Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) has announced its entry into the voluntary carbon market. The company will generate carbon credits through carbon capture at one of its Nebraska corn processing facilities, which has an annual capacity of over 800,000 tons.
The facility in Columbus, Nebraska is the largest bioethanol carbon capture facility in the world. ADM began capturing carbon dioxide at this plant in November 2025 in a partnership with energy infrastructure company Tallgrass.
The captured CO2 will be purified, compressed and transported for underground sequestration in Eastern Wyoming. The credits will be verified and issued by Puro.earth, which is reviewing the credits under its methodology for Geologically Stored Carbon.
ADM plans to issue carbon credits from the facility over 15 years. This marks the company's first planned entry into the carbon market, although it has experience with its own injection wells and partnerships involved will allow it to 'connect agricultural production with growing carbon removal markets at scale.'
