Abu Dhabi's XRG, the investment arm of state oil giant ADNOC, is in preliminary talks to acquire a minority stake in LNG Canada. The firm is negotiating with PetroChina, which holds a 15% ownership in the venture.

LNG Canada is a massive liquefied natural gas export facility in British Columbia, led by Shell with a 40% equity stake.

The move is part of Abu Dhabi's push to become a major global player in natural gas and clean-burning fuels.
