Alberta's Energy Sector Sees Boom on the Horizon as New Pipeline Nears Completion

A palpable sense of optimism has settled over Alberta's energy industry, with Premier Danielle Smith and key players in the sector confidently predicting another boom is on the horizon.

During her annual address to the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, Smith highlighted plans to double oil production by 2035 and mentioned that a new pipeline carrying over a million barrels per day to the West Coast is nearing completion. The project's national interest designation is expected by October 1st, according to the Premier.

C-39, the Building Canada Strong Act, introduced by Prime Minister Mark Carney's Liberal government, aims to streamline project approvals and speed up the process of getting new infrastructure built. This move has been met with support from Smith, who believes it will 'unlock a huge amount of investment dollars' in the province.

Suncor CEO Rich Kruger is also optimistic about the future, mentioning that old projects could be brought back to life. The company had previously shelved several projects due to economic concerns but may now see them as viable options with the new pipeline and streamlined approvals process.
