Alberta's Oil Sands Poised for $364 Billion Investment Boost: New Modeling
New modeling suggests that Alberta's oil sands could receive a $364 billion investment boost through 2050, representing a 76% increase. This comes from a new economic deal that keeps the province within a united Canada.
The study assumes an increase in Alberta's oil production to around 7.8 million barrels per day by 2050, aligning with the government's roadmap target of 8 mb/d by 2035. Investments in projects such as the West Coast Oil Pipeline and brownfield and greenfield oil sands projects could move forward under these favourable conditions.
The modeling also reveals that Alberta's oil sands GDP could see a $26 billion increase, or 76%, in 2050, with a $476 billion boost over 25 years. Additionally, oil sands jobs are expected to rise by up to 22,000, or 58%, in 2050.
