Americans Overestimate Gas Price Increases Amid Middle East Conflict
A recent survey by Politico found that most Americans overestimate the rise in gas prices. The average price of gas has hovered around $4 since the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran, but nearly a quarter of respondents believed fuel costs had risen by $3 or more.
The conflict in the Middle East continues to influence global oil supply, with Iranian restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz driving prices up. The international benchmark Brent crude recently crossed the $100 mark, and futures trading sits at around $101 per barrel.
Forty-six percent of voters said gas prices could affect their vote in upcoming primaries and midterm elections. Additionally, a separate Politico poll found that support for the Iran war among President Trump's followers is declining, with 13 points fewer backing it compared to recent weeks.
