Aramco and Maaden Team Up on Copper Exploration in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia's state-owned oil company Aramco and mining firm Maaden have partnered to explore for copper and other minerals critical to the energy transition. The joint venture (JV) aims to unlock new opportunities in mineral exploration and hard-rock mining within the Arabian Platform, with a focus on copper.
The JV plans to target areas most likely to contain copper and valuable minerals using advanced computational algorithms, AI, and high-performance computing. This is expected to accelerate the path from regional screening to target definition and discovery, supporting long-term sector development and reinforcing the Kingdom's role in the global minerals value chain.
Aramco Vice President Saleh M. Al Saleh stated: 'Over 90 years, Aramco has accumulated and analyzed the largest amount of geological and geophysical data ever acquired in a single basin for the Kingdom.'
