Asia's Tech-Led Rally Continues Despite Ongoing Oil Price Volatility
Asian stock markets continued their six-day winning streak on Wednesday as investors remained optimistic about technology shares and AI applications. The MSCI Asia-Pacific ex-Japan index rose by 0.7%, with South Korea up 1.2% and Taiwan adding 0.9%. Samsung and SK Hynix, both semiconductor companies, led the gains with a 2% increase.
The oil price remained subdued as traders weighed reports of increased Middle East supply against geopolitical tensions involving Saudi Arabia, Iran, and the US. Brent futures fell by 0.1% to $99.18 a barrel, while U.S. crude dropped by 0.4% to $90.14.
Analysts noted that the retreat in oil prices helped Treasury futures edge higher, keeping 10-year yields below 5.0%. However, two-year yields reached their highest level since mid-2024 at 4.7879%, as investors priced in the risk of further Federal Reserve tightening.
