Baker Hughes Takes Direct Stake in LNG Project
Baker Hughes is expanding its LNG infrastructure strategy beyond equipment sales to direct ownership stakes in projects that use its gear.
The oilfield services giant owns a 5% equity interest in Argent LNG HoldCo LLC, the parent company of the project seeking DOE authorization to export liquefied natural gas from a terminal at Port Fourchon in Louisiana.
The deal is the latest sign Baker Hughes is positioning itself as an LNG investor rather than just a vendor. It took a similar step on the Alaska LNG project and has pending $13.6 billion acquisition of Chart Industries, which deepens its position across LNG, hydrogen, and data center infrastructure.
Argent LNG anticipates starting construction in December 2027, with service beginning in the first quarter of 2030. The roughly 900-acre Port Fourchon site would house pre-treatment facilities, modular liquefaction units, full-containment LNG storage tanks, a power generation facility, and marine loading berths.
