Bangladesh Approves Direct Procurement of LNG Cargoes, LPG, Electric Buses

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved proposals to directly procure eight liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes, 5,000 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and 200 electric buses for Bangladesh's Road Transport Corporation (BRTC).

The approval was given at a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury on August 6. The LNG cargoes will be purchased from four different international companies, including Blackcube International Limited of the UK and Plenitude Energy Sdn Bhd of Malaysia.

The committee also approved the direct purchase of 5,000 tonnes of LPG from Speed Marketing Corporation (Speed Group) to meet emergency demand. The LPG will contain 35-40% propane and 60-65% butane and will be purchased at a price of Saudi Aramco Contract Price plus $97 per metric tonne.

The project to procure electric buses for BRTC includes the installation of charging stations and construction of related infrastructure. The fleet will include buses designated for women passengers, as part of the government-funded proposal submitted by the Road Transport and Highways Division.
