Bangladesh Approves LNG Cargoes, Fertilizer Deal to Ensure Uninterrupted Supply
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) of Bangladesh has approved several key proposals to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential fertilisers and gas, strengthen technical training facilities, and support continued operation of key industrial projects. The CCEA meeting was chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.
One of the major decisions taken at the meeting is related to the procurement of 14 liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes from seven companies through direct procurement method. This move aims to maintain normal gas supply in the country during emergencies, as per relevant provisions of the Public Procurement Act and Public Procurement Rules.
The committee also approved a proposal for Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) to sign an agreement with Fertiglobe Distribution Limited, UAE, for importing urea fertiliser under the 2026-27 fiscal year's annual procurement arrangement. This deal will support the continued operation of key industrial projects in the country.
Furthermore, the committee approved a proposal related to the Ghorashal-Palash Urea Fertilizer Project for engaging technical assistance from MHI, Japan, the General Contractor (GC) of the project, to support daily production and maintenance operations. The approval covers the engagement of consultants under the Technical Service (Phase-2) contract through single-source selection method.
