Bangladesh has been booking Indian wheat imports in large quantities since India removed its export restrictions in late August. The country, which typically buys over 7 million tonnes of wheat annually, had shifted some of its purchases to other suppliers like Argentina, Canada, Russia, and Ukraine after India restricted exports in May 2022.

With the disruption of grain shipments from the Black Sea region raising prices, Bangladesh has turned back to India for substantial wheat imports. The first such purchases since 2022 amount to over 200,000 tonnes, according to Bloomberg, citing Business Today.

The new orders are expected to be delivered at a price range of $305 to $326 per tonne, with most shipments arriving by rail. Bangladesh's state-run Trading Corporation reported that the refined wheat flour price in Dhaka has risen by 17% over the past month.
