The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved in principle the procurement of 18 liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes from TotalEnergies to meet Bangladesh's growing gas demand.

The proposal, submitted by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, aims to secure two LNG cargoes per month from October 2026 to June 2027, totaling 18 shipments.

The government may also procure additional LNG cargoes from TotalEnergies if necessary, subject to mutual agreement between the two parties.
