LNG shortages have forced Bangladesh to rely on spot market imports, resulting in nearly threefold cost increases and straining the energy budget.

Petrobangla is discussing short- to medium-term supply deals with global traders such as Trafigura, TotalEnergies Gas & Power, and BP Singapore.

Trafigura has proposed supplying 16 cargoes between November 2026 and December 2027 at Platts's JKM plus $0.05 per million British thermal unit (MMBtu), while TotalEnergies has offered to deliver 18 cargoes between October 2026 and June 2027 under both Henry Hub and JKM pricing formulas.

The country awarded a short-term supply deal to TotalEnergies for the delivery of 18 cargoes from October 2026 to June 2027, priced at Platts JKM plus 6.0 cents per MMBtu.
