Bangladesh Surpasses Pakistan as US LNG Imports Soar

Bangladesh has become the 17th-largest importer of US liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the first half of 2026, with a 61% increase in imports from the same period last year. The country's LNG imports rose to 50.23 billion cubic feet (bcf) between January and June this year.

The disruption to traditional LNG supplies amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has driven Bangladesh to seek alternative sources, including the US. Egypt was the largest importer of US LNG in the first half of 2026, with 314.6 bcf imported during this period.

QatarEnergy has extended its force majeure on LNG supplies to buyers in Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Italy due to security concerns. The company's operations were suspended on March 4 after the war between the US-Israel alliance and Iran broke out.
