Bangladesh Turns to Myanmar for Pipeline Gas Imports Amid Energy Shortfall

Bangladesh is seeking to import natural gas from Myanmar through a pipeline to alleviate its growing energy shortfall, according to recent talks between the two countries.

The proposal was discussed during meetings on energy cooperation at the Energy Ministry in Dhaka with a Myanmar delegation. Myanmar Ambassador to Bangladesh Kyaw Soe Moe expressed his country's positive stance on exporting gas to Bangladesh and proposed supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Bangladesh has significant demand for natural gas, with a daily shortfall of one-quarter of its 3.80 billion cubic feet demand, despite importing one-third of that amount from the Middle East and other distant countries.
