Bangladesh's Titas-28 Well Inaugurated, Boosting National Gas Supply

The Titas-28 well in Brahmanbaria has been officially inaugurated by State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit. The well is expected to add 12.5 million cubic feet of gas to the national grid daily, starting today.

Amit said that increasing local production alongside importing gas is key to addressing the ongoing gas crisis in Bangladesh. He noted that importing LNG costs nearly three times more than domestic production and is not sustainable for a prolonged period.

The state minister stated that plans have been adopted to improve the gas supply situation by 2030 through enhanced production capacity. By then, the country aims to secure a total of 3,300 million cubic feet of gas daily, including 1,200 mmcfd from combined sources and another 1,000 mmcfd from a land-based LNG terminal.

Drilling operations for wells Titas-29, Titas-30, and Titas-31 are also underway. The drilling of these wells will add an additional 55 million cubic feet to the national grid within the next three to four months.
