Bay Area Gas Prices Hit $5.67 Amid Ongoing Conflict
Gas prices in the Bay Area have surged to an average of $5.67 per gallon, a $1.05 increase from last year, amidst ongoing international conflict and crude oil market volatility.
Although oil prices have dipped below $100 a barrel following reports of potential U.S.-Iran talks mediated by Pakistan, drivers across the Bay Area continue to face severe pain at the pump.
According to Severin Borenstein, an energy economist at the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business, the increase in crude oil prices has added approximately 50 cents per gallon to retail gas stations since the conflict resumed.
Borenstein noted that global oil reserves are running exceptionally low, making it harder and more expensive to retrieve oil from harder-to-reach reserves.
