BC Emerges as Major Energy Player with $30 Billion in New Investment
The province of British Columbia has made significant progress in its natural resource sector, despite facing numerous obstacles from governments and environmentalists. The completion of major projects such as the LNG Canada megaproject and the TMX pipeline has led to a boom in construction, with investments reaching $21.1 billion at their peak in 2023.
The province's share of Canada's oil and gas investment increased from around 10% in the decade prior to 2016 to over 30% by 2024, establishing it as a major player in the country's energy industry.
Pipeline construction in B.C. jumped significantly, with investments reaching $1 billion in 2015 and $4.4 billion by 2024, accounting for over half of all pipeline construction in Canada.
