State BJP president and Rajya Sabha member Samik Bhattacharya inspected ONGC's Ashoknagar field in North 24-Parganas, where commercial crude oil production has started since August 28.

Bhattacharya stated that he had pursued the project for four years by raising the issue in Parliament and following up with the Petroleum Minister and ONGC.

He emphasized that there would be no political interference in the oilfield, assuring officials that 'no BJP worker, no MP or MLA will interfere in this matter.'

The Petroleum Mining Lease (PML) required for oil extraction has been a long-standing issue, with Bhattacharya alleging that the previous state government stalled the project.
