Over the past five years, Bitcoin has emerged as the top-performing asset, delivering a 183% gain between October 2021 and October 2026. The cryptocurrency rose from approximately $29,000 to around $82,600, with an annualized return of about 23.1%. Despite its impressive performance, Bitcoin remains highly volatile, influenced by regulatory uncertainty and investor sentiment.
Gold followed as the second-best performer, with a 131% return over the same period. The precious metal climbed from $1,796 an ounce to around $4,142, benefiting from inflation concerns, geopolitical uncertainty, and central banks' efforts to diversify their reserves. Gold's performance highlights its role as both a safe haven and a potential hedge during uncertain times.
The Nifty 50 index in India delivered a comparatively modest return of 26%, rising from 18,115 to around 22,624. Indian equities provide exposure to domestic economic growth and corporate earnings, making them a valuable addition to long-term investment strategies.
Experts advise that there is no one-size-fits-all investment strategy. Daniel Munday, Principal Analyst at VT Markets, noted that yields and the Federal Reserve's policies drive all three asset classes. He emphasized that equities have earnings supported by AI spending, while gold and Bitcoin are influenced by rate expectations and market sentiment. The upcoming Fed meeting on October 27 and 28 will be a critical test for all three assets.
