Bonny Light Surges as Strait of Hormuz Tensions Keep Oil Markets on Edge
Nigerian crude oil prices are on the rise, driven by ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and potential supply disruptions. The popular contract, Bonny Light, approached $95 per barrel, a level not seen since market volatility peaked earlier this year.
The price of Brent crude increased by 6.5%, while European gas prices rose nearly 9%. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical global trade chokepoint, continues to be a major concern for energy markets.
Nigeria's production levels remain relatively stable, with an average output of 1.505-1.546 million barrels per day last month. This is close to the country's OPEC quota floor of 1.5 million barrels per day and indicates a positive trend following years of underproduction.
