BOTAŞ and SOCAR Pledge to Bolster Natural Gas Trade Agreements
Türkiye's pipeline operator BOTAŞ and SOCAR are working to extend existing agreements on natural gas trade, according to BOTAŞ Director General Abdulvahit Fidan. Speaking at the 5th Azerbaijan-Türkiye Energy Forum, Fidan highlighted the importance of energy cooperation between the two countries.
Fidan noted that key projects such as the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Shah Deniz-1, and TANAP have contributed to energy cooperation and the security of energy supply for neighboring countries and Europe. In recent years, natural gas sector cooperation has accelerated, with new areas including a gas pipeline commissioned in March 2025 for Nakhchivan's energy supply and natural gas supplies launched to Syria through SOCAR and BOTAŞ in August 2025.
A contract was signed several months ago for the long-term purchase of natural gas from the Absheron field. The Director General emphasized that cooperation is multifaceted and dynamic, with a broad agenda. He added that extending existing agreements on natural gas trade between BOTAŠ and SOCAR remains a priority.
