Brazil is set to increase its agricultural production in the 2026-27 season, according to the National Supply Co. (Conab). The agency's first crop survey for the season projects total production of soybeans, corn, rice, and wheat at 367.1 million tonnes, a 1.4% rise from the previous year. Planted area is expected to expand by 2.3% to 85.4 million hectares.
Soybean production is forecasted to reach 181.6 million tonnes, up 0.7% on 49.3 million hectares, a 1.4% increase in planted area. Soybean exports are estimated at 117.97 million tonnes, a 1.5% increase from the prior season. Soybean meal exports are projected to rise by 3%, totaling 27.1 million tonnes. Conab noted strong domestic demand driven by biodiesel and vegetable protein consumption.
Corn production is projected to grow by 2.4% to 148 million tonnes on 23.7 million hectares, a 4.9% increase in planted area. Corn exports are expected to reach 43.9 million tonnes, with stocks adjusted to 16 million tonnes in February 2027. Domestic consumption is anticipated to rise by 6.6% due to increased ethanol production. Carryover corn stocks are projected at 14.9 million tonnes.
Rice production is forecasted to decrease by 2.9% to 10.8 million tonnes on 1.53 million hectares, despite a 7% growth in rainfed areas. Wheat production is expected to drop by 27% to 5.7 million tonnes due to reduced planted area and productivity.
