Brazilian Cotton Prices Surge Amid Global Supply Concerns
Cotton prices in Brazil continued to rise in late August 2026, according to data from the National Supply Company (Conab). In the week of August 24-28, producer prices averaged R$135.18 per arroba in Mato Grosso, a weekly increase of 1.97%. In Bahia, the average price reached R$141.33 per arroba, up 2.41% from the previous week.
The wholesale price in São Paulo (without ICMS tax) also rose to R$141.76 per arroba, a weekly gain of 1.35%. International cotton futures on the New York Stock Exchange increased as well, with the first delivery contract closing at 98.10 cents per pound, a weekly rise of 2.17%.
The USDA report on U.S. cotton crop conditions indicated a deterioration in crop quality due to adverse weather, which supported higher prices. Fluctuations in oil prices and the appreciation of the U.S. dollar did not prevent the upward movement.
