Brazilian Wheat Imports Set to Reach Record High Amid Weather Disruptions

Brazil's wheat imports are expected to reach around 9 million tonnes this season, surpassing the initial projection of 7.5 million tonnes due to weather-related losses in the domestic crop.

According to Abitrigo, the Brazilian Wheat Industry Association, the import estimate was revised because part of Brazil's production has already been affected by weather conditions.

Abitrigo Executive President Daniel Kümmel stated that the industry needs to secure supplies amid a tighter supply outlook and greater exposure to logistics and foreign-exchange costs.

The association believes Argentina and Paraguay remain Brazil's main wheat suppliers, while Russia could also contribute but is limited by Brazilian sanitary requirements.
