Calgary Firm Kathairos Solutions Cuts Methane Emissions with Nitrogen-Based System
Kathairos Solutions, a Calgary-based cleantech company, has developed an innovative system to eliminate routine methane releases from remote oil and gas well sites. By replacing natural gas with nitrogen in pneumatic devices, the company has successfully reduced emissions across Canada and the United States.
According to Kathairos, their liquid-nitrogen approach can abate up to 40,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions per year. The company claims to have already achieved this target, with over 70 producers across both countries adopting their technology.
The Alberta Environment and Protected Areas Minister, Rebecca Schulz, praised the initiative, stating that 'Alberta has helped show the world what is possible when it comes to reducing methane emissions.' Kathairos President and CEO, Dick Brown, emphasized the practicality of their solution for remote sites without grid power.
