Canada Fast-Tracks West Coast Pipeline Project
A new West Coast pipeline project has been designated as being in the national interest by the federal and Alberta governments. This move will fast-track and consolidate the approval process for the proposed pipeline, which is expected to carry one million barrels of oil per day from Alberta to the B.C. coast.
The project, known as the West Coast Pacific Link oil pipeline, was listed on Schedule 1 of the Building Canada Act, marking a significant milestone in its development. The federal government's decision will eliminate years of uncertainty and potential billions of dollars in costs for proponents, allowing them to focus on how the project will be built rather than whether it should be built.
The pipeline is expected to create up to 140,000 jobs once approved and completed, with an estimated annual GDP boost of up to $30 billion. The federal government also predicts that diversifying Canada's exports away from the U.S. will allow for higher oil prices, generating an additional $10 billion in revenues per year.
