Canada Stock Futures Tumble Amid US-Iran Tensions and Corporate Earnings
Futures for Canada's main stock index inched lower on Friday as investors weighed stalled US-Iran talks and corporate earnings. The S&P/TSX index saw its longest daily winning streak in four months on Thursday, but September futures were down 0.2% at 6:24 a.m. ET.
The United States threatened an indefinite naval blockade of Iran, reviving concerns about disruptions to crude supplies from the Middle East. Brent crude futures rose 0.8%, while West Texas Intermediate crude advanced 1.5%. Gold prices were steady, with spot gold flat at $4,354.77 per ounce.
On the earnings front, Bird Construction (BDT.TO) beat second-quarter profit estimates, prompting at least three brokerages to raise price targets on the stock. Air Canada's (AC.TO) revenue for September and October is expected to break records as more premium travelers avoid heat and summer crowds in Europe and Japan.
