Canada's Energy Superpower Ambitions Hinge on Regulatory Reform
Canada's potential to become an energy superpower is being debated by industry leaders and government officials. According to Prime Minister Mark Carney, Canada has a 'tremendous opportunity' to lead in both clean and conventional energy.
A panel of industry experts at the Canadian Energy Executives Association's CEEA 75 event discussed the need for regulatory reform to attract investment. Brian Hamm, President & CEO at McDaniel, highlighted Canada's oil production growth from 2.5 million to 5.5 million barrels per day over 20 years.
However, panelist Ron Gusek noted that while the US has increased oil production by 140% in the last 15 years, Canada has only seen an 80% increase. Gusek also emphasized the need for a stable and competitive regulatory framework to support the energy industry.
