Carney Clears Path for Pacific Link Pipeline
Prime Minister Mark Carney has designated the proposed Pacific Link pipeline project as being in Canada's 'national interest', paving the way for its fast-tracking over the next year. The pipeline will run from Alberta across British Columbia to the Vancouver area, following the existing Trans-Mountain Pipeline route.
The project aims to carry a million barrels of oil a day, doubling Canada's exports to Asia and reducing reliance on the United States. It is expected to transform the Canadian economy, creating tens of thousands of jobs and generating significant revenue.
Carney emphasized that the pipeline will be built with Canadian steel, using Canadian workers trained by Canadian unions. However, not everyone is supportive of the project. Environmentalists have raised concerns about oil shipments along the coast threatening salmon and pushing killer whales to extinction.
