Chevron Expands LNG Reach Across Asia Pacific and Beyond
Chevron is building its natural gas strategy around a broad network rather than focusing on a single growth market. The company operates two major LNG projects in Australia, Gorgon and Wheatstone, which supply around 9.5 million tons of LNG per year to Japan under long-term contracts.
Australia remains a key anchor for Chevron's gas business, but the assets also serve domestic demand. The company has signed an agreement with Alinta Energy to supply 46 petajoules of gas over five years starting in July 2027 from its interests in Gorgon, Wheatstone, and the North West Shelf.
Chevron is expanding its LNG reach through the U.S. Gulf Coast, where long-term purchase agreements have increased contracted LNG off-take capacity to 7 million tons annually, with some volumes scheduled to begin in 2026. The company has also approved an expansion of the Leviathan gas project offshore Israel in January 2026.
Chevron's growing emphasis on natural gas is not unique to the company. Across the industry, LNG is being viewed as a long-term growth avenue, supported by expectations for rising demand from power generation, industrial use, and global trade.
