Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged Iran and the US to remain rational and exercise restraint in their ongoing conflict, calling for a return to the Islamabad memorandum. In talks with Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, Wang emphasized the need for 'substantive consultations on issues of mutual concern.' He also stressed that China wants to see regional tensions ease, particularly in Yemen and the Red Sea.

China's economic partnership with Iran has remained stable despite escalating tensions in the Middle East. The two countries have a comprehensive strategic partnership, driven by Beijing's status as one of the largest importers of Iranian oil. Their bilateral trade volume reached over $41 billion last year, according to official figures.

The US and Israel launched attacks on Iranian targets in February, prompting a retaliatory response from Iran. China has sought to mediate in the conflict, urging all parties to take effective measures to reopen the Strait of Hormuz at an early date. Wang also emphasized Beijing's willingness to 'safeguard' Iran's rights during the talks.
