China's Fuel Exports Soar Amid Global Diesel Shortage
China's fuel exports have surged significantly in recent months, particularly diesel, amid a global shortage. According to Chinese customs data cited by Reuters, the country exported 6.01 million tons of refined fuels in August, an annual increase of 12.7%. This total volume exceeded pre-war levels, with jet fuel exports reaching an all-time high.
The surge was largely driven by diesel exports, which rose by 42.1% last month to a total of 1.33 million tons. Diesel fuel exports over the first eight months of the year booked an increase of 5.9%, for a total of 4.84 million tons.
The Chinese government had imposed export curbs earlier in the year due to the crude oil crunch resulting from the war in the Middle East. However, it has since relaxed these restrictions, allowing fuel exports to resume.
