Christodoulides Urges Quick Development of Cyprus Natural Gas Reserves

Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides called for the development of the country's natural gas reserves as soon as possible.

He made this statement during a meeting with John Ardill, vice president for global exploration at ExxonMobil, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The pair discussed the next steps for the 'Pegasus' and 'Glaucus' fields, which are located off the coast of Cyprus. These fields were declared commercially viable in June and are being jointly developed by ExxonMobil and QatarEnergy.

Christodoulides expressed his satisfaction with ExxonMobil's presence in Cyprus's exclusive economic zone and highlighted that the development of domestic natural gas could strengthen Cyprus's role in the eastern Mediterranean and contribute to Europe's energy security.
