CNOOC Eyes US-China Energy Cooperation Amid Lingering Tariffs

Chinese state-owned oil and gas major CNOOC is optimistic about potential energy cooperation between China and the US. The company's CEO, Huang Yongzhang, says there is still room for cooperation in the future despite tariffs imposed during last year's trade war.

In an interview after CNOOC reported its half-year results, Huang mentioned that the US is currently the world's largest producer and exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG), while China is the largest importer. This dynamic could pave the way for increased energy deals between the two countries.

CNOOC has long-term supply deals with US LNG producers, but these companies have resold their cargoes instead of paying tariffs since they were imposed.
