Collins and King Call for Trump to Release Heating Oil Reserves Amid Record Prices

Maine's Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King have written to President Donald Trump urging him to release some of the nation's heating oil reserve supplies as costs rise ahead of winter.

The senators' request comes as heating oil prices in Maine reach an all-time high, with a statewide average price of $6.02 per gallon surpassing the record set several years ago when Russia invaded Ukraine.

This week, the price hit a new high of $5.77 per gallon, up 74% from the same time last year, putting Mainers at risk of paying significantly more for heating oil this winter.

The senators pointed out that based on calculations for a standard 275-gallon tank, Mainers are expected to pay an additional $740 for a fill-up compared to the same time last year.
