Copper Price Rally Pauses Amid Declines in Scrap Metal Prices
The copper price rally on metal exchanges has paused after reaching an all-time high on August 17. The LME copper price fell by around $700 per tonne over the course of the week.
In Germany, non-ferrous scrap metals wholesalers are reporting price declines in parts of the recycling market. Copper scrap prices fell by between €5 and €10 per 100 kg depending on the grade in the third full week of August compared to the previous week.
Brass scrap maintained the previous week's price level, as did zinc scrap. Lead scrap prices, however, fell by €5 per 100 kg. In the aluminium scrap market, higher grades such as pure aluminium wire and extrusion cuttings recorded declines of €5, while prices for remaining aluminium scrap grades were stable.
