Copper Prices Sink on Higher Interest Rate Fears and Strengthening Dollar
Copper prices fell on expectations of higher interest rates for longer, weighing on market sentiment. The metal settled 0.11% lower at ₹1,370.95 in India.
The Federal Reserve's rate hike expectations have strengthened the dollar and limited copper's upside potential. Markets now price a 68% probability of a Fed rate increase in September, higher than 40% a week ago.
Supply-side concerns still provide underlying support for copper prices, which recorded their strongest monthly performance since January in August.
