Corn Belt Region Ends August with Sharp Contrasts in Corn Conditions
The Corn Belt region in the United States ended August with sharp contrasts in corn conditions. Heavy rainfall, drought, heat, and rapid crop development reshaped yield expectations across major producing states.
According to USDA Crop Progress data, as of Aug. 30, 57% of the U.S. corn crop was rated good to excellent. This is significant because the crop enters its final stretch before harvest with dramatically different conditions across regions.
The national numbers point to a crop moving quickly toward harvest. About 92% of U.S. corn had reached the dough stage, 62% was dented, and 13% had reached maturity by the end of August. However, these figures mask a more complicated production landscape.
