Cronos Gas Project Clears Regulatory Hurdle in Cyprus

Eni and TotalEnergies have secured regulatory approval for the Cronos gas project in Cyprus, marking the country's first offshore commercial development. The decision paves the way for production to start in 2028, with volumes routed to Egypt for processing and export as liquefied natural gas (LNG). This approach leverages existing infrastructure, reducing capital intensity and accelerating monetization.

The Cronos project underscores a regional trend of operators using established Egyptian LNG facilities to access global markets. This model offers a lower-cost alternative to building standalone infrastructure, allowing producers to tap into established export terminals and shipping networks.
