Cuban Doctor Highlights Inflation with Corn Fritter Comparison
Cuban doctor Dr. Daniel Del Toro González has turned to an everyday snack to highlight the growing disparity between inflation and salaries in Cuba.
Del Toro, a pediatrician at Las Tunas Pediatric Hospital, took to Facebook on Wednesday to explain the issue of inflation 'for primary school and preschool levels' by comparing the price of corn fritters before and after monetary restructuring.
He noted that back then, his basic salary was around 1,400 CUP, while now he earns 8,400 CUP. Meanwhile, the price of corn fritters has increased from 1 peso to 30 CUP.
This means that prices have multiplied by 30, while salaries have only increased sixfold, Del Toro pointed out in his comparison.
