Cyprus' Natural Gas to Supply Europe by 2028 Amid Energy Crisis

Cyprus' energy minister, Michael Damianos, announced that European consumers can expect natural gas from an undersea deposit off Cyprus to help meet their energy needs as early as March 2028.

The East Mediterranean is becoming an alternative energy source for European nations due to Russia's war in Ukraine and the upheaval in the Middle East.

The Cronos natural gas field, located off Cyprus' southern coast, will be developed by a consortium of TotalEnergies from France and Eni from Italy. The project will be the first time gas from east Mediterranean deposits is supplied to European markets.
